Relevance of Secondary Education on Poverty Reduction in Tanzania: The case study of Public Secondary Schools in Arusha City Council.

Abstract
The study was conducted aiming to investigate relevance of secondary education on poverty reduction in Public Secondary School in Arusha City Council, with specific objectives were to; Identifying relevance of secondary education on poverty reduction in Public Secondary Schools in Arusha City Council, Explain contribution of education acquired in Secondary Schools towards poverty reduction in Public Secondary Schools in Arusha City Council, Describing challenges facing secondary education on poverty reduction in Public Secondary Schools in Arusha City Council and Suggesting intervening measures to consider to improve Secondary School in Public Secondary Schools in Arusha City Council. A cross sectional research design was adopted with two data collection methods namely questionnaire and interview. A sample size of 116 respondents was selected, simple random sampling selected from Secondary School teachers, Secondary School graduates, parents and WEO’s. The findings revealed that, Secondary Education is vital on poverty reduction through impacting skills and knowledge required to prepare students to fight poverty. Also finding reveal challenge facing secondary education that, secondary education is not implemented practically, more on preparing graduate for being employed rather than employ themselves and lack of enough vocation secondary education. Finally, the findings revealed possible measures that, changing of secondary school curriculum establishes more vocation secondary school, encourage practically and science subject, adding of Co-Curricular subject, Carrier development Nevertheless, effective monitoring of Secondary education specifically practically learning, encourage more Vocation Secondary School and by ensure effective evaluation of content delivered in Secondary School is equally important.
