The Impact of Educational Disparity on Students’ Performance.

Abstract
This study is about the impacts of educational disparity on students’ academic performance in selected Secondary Schools in Shinyanga Municipality Tanzania. The study was conducted in 4 Secondary Schools namely Town, Ngokolo, Buluba and Buhangija with a purpose of identifying the impacts of educational disparity to students’ performance. The Main objective of this study was to identify the impacts on educational disparity to students’ performance in Secondary Schools in Tanzania. This study involved a sample of 30 respondents including students, parents, teachers and ward education Coordinators. The study employed random and purposeful sampling techniques. The main data collection methods were interviews, focus group discussion, document review, and observation. The findings indicated that; first, students face several types of educational disparity such as intent, unequal treatment, systemic and inter-institutional disparities. Second, the impacts of educational disparity to students include poor performance, pregnancy, dropout, and conflicts, thirdly, measures to eliminate educational disparity include abolition of corporal punishment, law enforcement, communication, infrastructures renovation, enough teachers, and equal rights. The study recommended intensive training, empowerment, and counseling. Finally, this study concluded that the impact of educational disparity on students’ academic performance in Secondary Schools in Tanzania can be eliminated by the efforts of students themselves, teachers, parents, government and the society at large. It is a responsibility of all these parties in fighting against educational disparity to students in Secondary school by applying the studied measures indicated in this study.
