Abstract

The general objective of this study was to investigate the effect of cultural practices on girl child education in Kwipipa village Gairo District. The specific objectives of the study were to examine the effect of early marriage on girl child education in Kwipipa village, to assess how poverty influence girl child education in Kwipipa village, and to find out how early pregnancy influence girl child education in Kwipipa village. A descriptive research design was employed, using a purposeful sampling and simple random sampling; both quantitative and qualitative methods of data analysis were used. Descriptive statistics were used to facilitate the assessment relationship between the variables of interest. 92 respondents participated from Kwipipa village. Based on the results of the descriptive analysis it was found that Early Marriage lead to early pregnancy this gives a girl child a burden to have family responsibilities and finally drop out of school, also it was found out that Poverty influence negative on girl child education, result reveal that because of poverty many houses have in conducive learning environment, also girl child has minimal time to study due to demand of labour at home and in farming activities, also because of poverty there is very little emphasis on sending a girl child to school. In case of early pregnancy result reveals that early pregnancy affects girl child school attendance which may result into class repetition and finally school dropout. The study recommend that Government in collaboration with educational stakeholders should construct hostels/dormitories facilities in order to reduce negative impacts of cultural practices on girl child education, the law-enforcers in cultural practices should work on the by laws that prohibit all bad cultural practices that affect girl child education.
