The Impacts of Community Participation in School Development Activities in the Selected Public Primary Schools in Chalinze District, Tanzania.

Abstract
This study investigated the impacts of community participation in school development activities in the selected public primary schools in Chalinze District Council. The study had the following objectives, first, to investigate the impact of community participation in education on access. Second, to investigate the impact of impact of community participation in education on attendance and third, to investigate the impact of community participation on the quality of education. Qualitative research approach with case study design was employed in this study. A total of 250 participants including fivehead teachers, ten teachers, 225 students and ten community members] were involved in this study. Quota and purposive sampling were employed to select schools and participants. The data were collected through face to face interviews, direct observation, focus group discussion and documentary analysis. Content analysis was used to analyse data. The findings revealed that there is effective and non-effective community participation in school development activities. The findings of this study have shown that effective community participation in school development activities has positive effects on students’ performance, teacher’s accountability, transparency, as well as well-developed and effective school with quality education compared to non-effective community participation in school development activities. The study proposes and recommend that there is a need to educate the school communities to participate in school development activities for better and quality education rather than waiting for the government to work and finance education for education development all over the country. It is proposed that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology needs to establish Training Programs on parent – teachers’ partnerships as well as effective community participation in school development activities for education development so as to empower them with understanding capacity as well as awareness on their right to participate in education development for better and quality education in their communities and for the country.
