Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine factors influencing employees’ turnover in Church Based Institutions. The study was guided by three specific research objectives which were (i) to examine the effects of remuneration on employee turnover in Church Based Institutions. (ii) to examine the effects of leadership styles on employee turnover in Church Based Institutions, and (iii)to examine the effects of organizational support on employee turnover in Church Based Institutions. An interpretivismresearch philosophy was espoused whereby a qualitative research was employed to collect and to analyze the data. Specifically, structured interviews were conducted through to the targeted respondents who involved the employees who resigned and also the Church administration especially the Bishops. A total of 30 respondents were contacted and who provided relevant information for the study. All the interviewed respondents were recorded and the data was transcribed, coded and analyzed in themes. The findings revealed that leadership styles in Church based institution which was reported as autocratic in nature, lack of attractive remuneration packages as well as low or no support from the employer were the main factors which caused employees’ turnover in the Church Based Institutions. The study ended by recommending that leaders must work hard to maintain an engaged workforce so as to survive in this competitive world.
