Contribution of Laboratory Activities on Student’s Academic Performance in Community Secondary Schools in Babati District, Manyara Region.

Abstract
The study aimed to explore the contribution of laboratory activities on Students’ academic Performance in Community Secondary Schools (CSS) in Babati District, Manyara region. The study's specific objectives were; to investigate the quality of science laboratories (labs) in CSS, determine the students’ use of labs in their practical activities, identify the challenges for students’ use of lab, and to identify strategies for solving the challenges of students’ use of lab. The study employed mixed research approach, where qualitative approach used a case study design while quantitative approach used a descriptive statistics. 129 respondents were selected in 8 CSS as sample. Purposive and stratified random sampling techniques were used to select sample study, Questionnaires, interviews, and observations methods used in data collection. The data collected was captured in Microsoft Excel and analyzed using SPSS. The analyzed data was presented in form of tables. Findings revealed; there were good quality lab in SS, students’ use labs frequently in their practice for each science subject that enhance positive achievement of students, challenges for students’ use of lab such as; lack of manpower, few number of lab buildings where other are incomplete, whereby strategies for solving the challenges of students’ use of lab such as; government to employ enough manpower, government should construct enough lab buildings for each science subject. It was concluded that the government needs to create the right environment, with adequate funding for schools, a good supply of trained specialist workforce. It was recommended that the government make favourable policy and friendly teaching and learning environment for both students and teachers for the positive achievement of the students.
