The Influence of Improved Teaching Environment for Effective Learning in Secondary Schools in Monduli District.

Abstract
This study aimed to examine the influence of improved teaching environment for effective learning in secondary schools in Monduli District. It was guided by four specific objectives, namely: to examine the quality of the teaching environment in secondary schools in Monduli District, to assess the contribution of improved teaching environment in effective learning, to examine the relationship between improved teaching environment and effective learning, and to assess ways in which teaching environment can be improved for effective learning. The study used cross-sectional and mixed design research approach. Methods of data collection were questionnaires, interviews and observations to 75 respondents from five secondary schools. The findings indicated that the quality of the teaching environment in secondary schools in Monduli District characterized with insufficient teaching and learning materials to cater for teachers and students’ needs. Moreover, it was observed that proper teacher/student ratio, teachers’ motivation and sufficient staff houses contribute to effective learning in schools. The findings revealed that there is a positive relationship between improved teaching environment and effective learning. The findings posited ways of improving teaching environment based on the presence of enough books, appropriate teacher/student ratio, adequate staff offices and adequate classes for students. This study recommends that teaching environment should be improved so that teachers may execute their roles effectively for students’ effective learning in secondary schools.
