Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of management communication on school effectiveness. Interviews and questionnaire were used to solicit informationfrom teachers, students and parents on the role of communication of the head teacher in developing school culture; the tools that head of schools use to promote teaching and learning; and the efficacy of the tools of communication that head teachers use to promote the professional growth of the teachers.The study found that the main communication tools applied by most head teachers werecollaboration and collegiality, as well as clear direction and these were found to be very effective in developing school culture. The study recommended that: there is a need for districts educational officials to conduct in-house trainings to the head of schools and teachers for raising awareness on the effectiveness of communication in building school culture. The study also recommended that the Ministry of Education should plan for regular trainings workshops for the teachers and headteachers on how to communicate effectively. Lastly, further research is recommended to extend to private primary and secondary schools.
