Abstract
The study were on improving income of young journalist freelancers through YouTube Online Tv production project for sustainable economic development as a result of community Need Assessment (CNA) conducted in Ilala municipal in Dar es Salaam city. The participatory community assessment was conducted in the municipal using participatory methods and tools like Focus Group Discussions and un-structured Interviews which came out with major community needs to be urgently addressed. Among the needs dealt with were sustainable source of income ranked as the trust need, having adequate number of viewers was considered as a factor that would enable them increase their income through sale of news/video and at the same time increase their production hence improve income. The CNA revealed that unsustainable income is the core need to majority of young journalist community. This situation has been caused by different factors such as lack of sustainable income or market penetration. Young journalist in Ilala municipal has resources but they are not organized and empowered to utilize their resources and available opportunities for their social economic development. So, the improvement of Online Television project ensured availability of sustainable income for young journalist. The study concludes that the communities could use online TV production platform as based activities of sustainable sources of income provided that they agree to plan and implement it as a means of increasing income. The study recommends that deliberate efforts should be taken to involve all stakeholders in implementation of community economic development projects to ensure sustainability of income and overcome the problem of unemployment of young journalist which is threatening the nation.
