Abstract
This study explores the contribution of effective communication on improved academic performance of primary schools in Kilwa District Council. Specifically, the study examined academic performance trends of primary schools in Kilwa District Council; assessed the communication processes in primary schools in Kilwa District Council, examined the contribution of effective communication on academic performance in primary schools and posited appropriate mechanisms on improving communication processes in primary schools in Kilwa District Council. The study employed case study design and mixed research approach. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews and documentation review. The study employed seventy-nine (79) respondents. The respondents 01 District Education Officer, 02 Education Offers, 02 Ward Education Officers, 06 Head Teachers were obtained by purposive sampling where as 29 Teachers, 24 Pupils, and 15 Parents were obtained by random sampling.The findings revealed that the academic performance trends (from 2013 to 2015) of primary schools in the Kilwa District Council have improved. Moreover, it was revealed that good communication processes based on formal and informal among education stakeholders have a contribution to improved academic performance. It was further learned that advancement of science and technology is the one of the ways which assists the effective communication among the education stake holders. The study recommended that in order to improve communication in Primary Education, formal and informal communications should be used. This study concludes that effective communication has the contribution on improved academic performance. Keywords: effective communication, academic performance
