Abstract
The Community Needs Assessment conducted in Wazo Ward, Kinondoni District in Dare es salaam identified the most community pressing need that is the need to establish a Solid Waste Management Group to engage in solid waste management asctivities while generating their income. The research was conducted as a Community Needs Assessment study in Kinondoni Municipality. The methods used in this study included: Observation, Focus group discussions (FGDs); key informant interview; meetings and questionnaire for the key respondents. The study identified the most community pressing need that was obtained from members of the study group whom were left to vote. The need for establishment of Solid waste management group came out as the most pressing need, whereas the group to engage in managing the solid waste while at the same time generating income for their well being and development. Other identified pressing needs included the formalization and registration of the group to so as it gained recognition to the companies and the government, the entrepreneurial skills, organizational management skills, and financial management. The implemented project prioritized group formalization and awareness to the community finally the assessment recommended the integration of pending needs in the future project plans, the development of the constitution of the group to guide its activities.
