Abstract

This study aimed to establish the element of awareness of economic diplomacy among youth in Tanzania’s key operational institutions of the country’s New Foreign Policy. The objectives were to evaluate young employees’ understanding of economic diplomacy, its connection with their main activities, and weigh up the impact of such awareness in performing their duties. A quantitative study was done on youth randomly sampled from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Tanzania Trade Development Authority, and Tanzania Investment Center. Data were analyzed using SPSS software. Findings: out of 64 respondents, 27 (42.2%) indicated good understanding of economic diplomacy, 21 (32.8%) indicated fair understanding and 13 (20.3%) indicated excellent understanding 2 (3.1%) very poor and 1 (1.6%) and poor understanding. On connection between their daily activities and implementation of economic diplomacy; findings: 45 (70.3%) respondents indicated agreed, 14 (21.9%) indicated strongly agreed while 4 (6.2%) indicated neither agreed nor disagreed and the remaining 1 (1.6%) indicated disagree. Lastly, respondents’ opinions on the impact of youth's awareness of economic diplomacy in the performance of their duties in their respective institutions; 33 (51.6%) strongly agreed, 28 (43.8%) agreed while 3 (4.7 %) neither agreed nor disagreed. Hence, 95.4 percent of respondents' opinions show economic diplomacy awareness has a positive impact on their work performance. Generally, the youth who are engaged in the implementation of the foreign policy are aware of Economic diplomacy.
