Social Challenges to Innovation Management in Emerging Economies: The Case of Tanzania.

Abstract
The study was conducted on assessing social challenges to innovation management in emerging economies with specific focus to Tanzania. It was guided by three specific objectives which generated research questions facilitated knowledge generation for the inquiry. They include social challenges to innovations management; policies affecting effective innovations management; and practices facilitating effective innovations management. Exploratory design was used since qualitative method was employed in the conduct of the study whereas findings were generated from respective key informants from Commission for Science and Technology using in-depth interviews. The results collected were analyzed through content analysis technique which were narratively presented with themes to support the collected facts. The results showed that there are several challenges affecting innovations management such as limited and poor resources allocation, limited skills and expertise, limited awareness, and several others. Apart from that, innovations management is largely affected by weak and poor policies in place which are uncertain in assuring sustainability and effective practicability. Moreover, there are effective practices in place such as nurturing of the business ideas and innovations, financial support, assistance in searching for markets and opportunities and others which are essential in assuring positive results in the practice. However, with challenges in place it has been difficult for innovations management to be effective and efficient in Tanzania. The implication of the results is that innovations management is affected by several challenges though the idea in the country once well invested may turn to be effective with positive results being generated.
