Socio-Economic Causes Of Marriage Breakdown Among Young Couples In Tanzania, A Case Of Arusha City.

Abstract
This study was designed to provide the Socio-economic causes of marriage breakdown among young couples in Urban Tanzania: A case of Arusha City. The specific objectives were to identify the causes that contribute to marriage breakdown, to determine various consequences of marriage breakdown on children of broken families and to identify a system to monitor social-economic causes of marriage breakdown. The study employed quantitative and qualitative approach. The data were collected through questionnaires. The target population was 120 respondents. The purposive sampling techniques were used to get respondents of the population. The data were analyzed using SPSS. The findings revealed that social economic factors such as lack of education, poverty globalization, interference of extended family, sex role expectation, childless, and infidelity causes marriage breakdown. The information gathered from the field, have also revealed that factors like communication breakdown among married couples is a threat to young married couples, other social factors like poverty, bedroom boredom, lack of affection, diseases, individualism and unemployment. Majority of the respondents have also revealed that the traditional aim of marriage is procreation and without it, marriage is incomplete. Therefore childless marriages are bound to experience conflict this is mentioned as a major cause of divorce. Children from broken homes develop bitterness and hatred among themselves because of the foundation, which were laid by their parents. It will therefore be within the scope of this study to examine the social economic causes of marriage breakdown among young couples and suggests what needs to be done effectively to minimize this behaviour.
