Abstract

This project is an account of the enhancement of income generation to the unemployed youth in Nyamwilolelwa Hamlet, Shibula ward, Ilemela municipality, in Mwanza region. The overall research objective was to identify the economic activities that will enhance income generation to unemployed youth of Nyamwilolelwa Hamlet. The CNA Specific Objectives included: First, to identify economic activities done by unemployed youth of Nyamwilolelwa Hamlet. Second, to identify the available sources of income and third, to identify the most burning need among the youth for intervention. Fourth, to assess the skills and potentials that unemployed youth have for their economic improvement, and fifth, to identify the economic challenges they faced. A project was undertaken as an intervention to enable the unemployed youth generate income. The general objective of the project was to enhance income generation through green vegetable production at Nyamwilolelwa Hamlet. The specific objectives included: First, to create awareness on income generating activities to 5 unemployed youth of Nyamwilolelwa Hamlet by June 2020. Second, to empower 5 unemployed youth on green vegetable production skills and techniques by June 2020. Third, to start a green vegetable project for cultivation of greens in 5gardens by 5 unemployed youth group by June 2020. Fourth, to facilitate 5 unemployed youth in marketing of the produced cauliflower by August 2020. The project by the unemployed youth to cultivate cauliflower and sell the product was done successfully. This shows that if the youth will be empowered and well supported, they can employ themselves and generate income for their wellbeing, and therefore contribute significantly in the enhancement of the efforts to eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development.
