Abstract

Readers of this report might be interested to know the outcome of my assignment as an associate trainer with ole Tanzania on business skills, organization and financial sustainability. Frankly speaking the assignment was a great challenge to test the applicability of knowledge and skills acquired in various courses taken as part of the fulfillment of the graduate studies. This assignment was more practical and exposed me to the real experience of learning by doing. The process was generally frustrating at the beginning but later turned into an interesting, involving, interactive, challenging and useful assignment than was thought before. I appreciate being part of this process, I testify to have learned quite a great deal in various aspects as summarized in the following points: • selecting an organization to work with is not an easy task it requires understanding of its mission, core value, its objectives and programmes. • coping with pressure of work is a challenge at stake in aspiring higher career status. • networking in fast paced and challenging environment is rather a must to ensure efficient and effective use of limited resources. • use of information and communication technology makes it possible to get, share and use information for our own endeavors. • exposure to various training tools translated theoretical part of my learning process into reality. v • interaction with clients infused in me new ideas that I never thought possible before. • personal skills on use of computers, audio visual aids, report writing and presentation skills relatively improved my existing skills in these aspects. I believe all these lessons and experiences are useful tools in my endeavors as a community development practitioner. Insights on these aspects are contained in the subsequent six chapters. Chapter one gives the background, chapter two is on orientation for the assignment, chapter three is about assignments performed, chapter four covers evaluation and training support services. Chapter five documents the experiences and lessons learnt and lastly chapter six draws conclusion and recommendations. I hope the report will give an insight to trainers, clients, training institutions, nongovernmental organization, government, donors and researchers.
