Masters thesis, The Open University of Tanzania.
Abstract
The study focused on examining the contribution of training and development policy on employee performance at the Tanzania Public Service College. The study was guided by three specific objectives which were, to assess the effects of training methods on employee performance, to examine the effects of training and development programmes on employee performance and to establish the effects of training resources on employee performance. The study adopted a cross-sectional research design and a sample size of 80 employees. Structured questionnaire was used to solicit primary data and the collected data were analyzed
descriptively and with regression analysis. The findings indicate that there is a positive relationship between training and development programs with employee performance. Training and development contributed to employee performance; therefore there are other factors that need to be studied more which contributes to employee performance. The study recommends that performance appraisal should be
conducted periodically. Other incentives such as salaries and scholarships should be looked forward as important motivational factors which combined with training and
development may bring high performance.
