Abstract

The study explores the general factors leading to Non-Government Organizations project performance in Tanzania, a case study of selected NGOs; Ubongo Learning, Glami Tanzania, and Milele Foundation. It was employed quantitative approaches with correlation study design, which was used to link among the project managers’ soft skills and the project performance of the NGOs observing the response of dependent variable in respect to independent variable changes. The specific objectives was to assess the effect of communication skills on project success, to assess the effect of interpersonal skills on project success and lastly to assess the effect of the problem-solving skills in the project skills. Data was analyzed by descriptive analysis with frequency distributions, measure of central tendency which includes mean and median, measure of dispersion which used standard deviation and the range. It was adopted the cross-section study design where three higher learning institutions were evaluated. The study used the simple random and judgmental sampling technique to obtain the institutions from the population, thereafter the respondents from the sampled institutions. 72 respondents used from three sampled higher learning institutions. Data were collected by the use of interview and questionnaire, structured questionnaire were prepared and administered to the respondents who filed and returned the questionnaires which made the response rate of 97.2%. Descriptive and inferential data analysis methods were used to analyze the data in relation to the specific objectives and the findings was reported. The findings revealed that there is the significant relationship between the project managers’ soft skills has the significant effect on the performance of the project in the NGOs.
