Abstract

The primary aim of the research was to explore how training influences the performance of employees at Dar es Salaam Water Sewerage Agency. The study was guided by three specific objectives: to assess the impact of on-the-job training on the performance of DAWASA employees; to determine the effects of off-site training on DAWASA employees’ performance; to determine the effect of induction training on DAWASA employees’ performance. The research was grounded in a positivist philosophy and employed a quantitative research approach, utilizing an explanatory research design. From a pool of 1,500 permanent full-time DAWASA staff members, a sample of 316 participants was selected using a stratified sampling strategy. Structured questionnaires were utilized to collect data. The data analysis involved employing descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis was used to test the relationship between multiple independent variables on the dependent variable. The outcomes of the analysis from the ANOVA test indicated that the model used in the study was statistically significant. The regression coefficient findings revealed that all three predictors—on-the-job training, off-site training, and induction training positively and significantly correlated with employee performance. Based on these findings, it is recommended that DAWASA support employees financially and time for further training outside the working workplace. Secondly, there should be on-the-job facilities and programmes to train employees Lastly, ensuring a well-structured and effective induction process for all new staff members before they commence their work is essential. Key Words: Training, On the Job Training, Off the Job Training, Induction Training, Employees Performance
