Abstract

Through training and development, an organization can effectively adopt new business rules and deal with technological changes and challenges. With a focus on the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Mbeya Region, this study assessed the effect of training and development on the performance of Social Security Fund employees. Quantitative approach was followed by this study, and the research design used in the study was explanatory, 24 employees were chosen as the sample size using Yamane’s Formula (1967). The target population at NSSF Mbeya Region consisted of all 32 employees. There was use of both primary and secondary sources. A questionnaire was used to get the respondents’ pertinent and essential information. Using SPSS version 25, descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data that had been gathered. The findings revealed that training and development improve worker’s ability to perform well, quality of work improved at NSSF Mbeya, as well as team collaboration. Based on the findings, the study concluded that both on and off the Job training are crucial in promoting employee performance, training affects employee working competitiveness and experience hence improving performance in various tasks they are engaged. Employee training and development tend to increase profitability, improve knowledge and skills of the job among employees in all sectors of the organization. It is recommended that the Management of NSSF Mbeya need to ensure training strategies enhance employee’s motivation for superior performance and not only aligned to productivity.
