Abstract

The study assessed the role of social partner in promoting HIR at workplace in Tanzania, a case of Mwanga District. Specifically the study assess the application of HIR in workers performance, determine the roles of social partner in promoting HIR and assess measures taken to reinforcing IR in workers performance. This study used qualitative research methods to collect in-depth information about individual opinions, attitudes and feelings about roles of social partners. A purposive sampling method was used to select the study sample of 38 respondents. Data collected through semi-structured interviews with employees from rural and urban Mwanga district. Findings from the study revealed that, IR is achieved in the workplace only when leaders determine their organization culture, however the role played by social partner in promoting industrial relations is determined by a combination of several factors such as collective bargaining agreement, effective communication, create open dialogue, reward and inspire and healthy work life balance. Further, the study found that some measures were taken to promote harmonious industrial relation at Mwanga district these are, conflict management, wage issues and attendance issues. Therefore, this study concludes that employees have knowledge about the role played by social partners, the employer in the organization fosters team building among the workers and establishes appropriate contact between organization and employees while maintaining’ motivation. This study recommends that IR include the whole range of relations between all actors which seek to determine the conditions under which the work is performed and the objectives of the organization, employees, the economy and the society are achieved.
