Masters thesis, The Open University of Tanzania.
Abstract
This study , motivated by the observation that several organizations among them banks, were involuntarily laying off employees, looked at the effects of involuntary employee turnover (independent variable) on organizational performance (dependent variable) specifically the causes and effects of involuntary turnover at Opportunity International Bank of Malawi (OIBM). The study considered the preference for or against McGregor theory X and the scientific management theory in its process. A descriptive research design which explored the diversity of the population was adopted. Qualitative/quantitative and primary /secondary data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. It was evidenced that generally involuntary turnover affected the organization’s operations, employees and profits negatively due to its high rate. Faulted was the procedure, human resource management, the lack of adequate and on time human resource intervening policies in the aftermath of involuntary turnover. Area of possible further study is on time laid down strategies for each possible aftermath effect of involuntary turnover and these are quite many.
