Women Empowerment through Better Rearing of Goats: Case of Mwaumma Group in Bukoba District.

Abstract
The overall purpose of the participatory assessment at Kanyangereko ward community assessment was to identify the core problems facing the milk goat group, which deals with income generating project of milk goat, to understand them so as to come up with a project what will help to improve or solve some of the identified problems, namely poor veterinary services, management skills in animal husbandry, and inadequate feeding. Research method used is participatory rural appraisal whereby research tools employed include interview, focus group discussion, participatory observation and review of documents. The main findings reveal that, farmers have problems on feeding issues. Low production and deseaces preveance is high.The aim of the project is imparting the skills and knowledge to members on feeding procedures, disease diagnosis and basic treatment, managerial skills in goat husbandry and business opportunity. After the implementation of the project, it was revealed that Mwaumma group is not registered and its financial support depends on donor. Therefore it is recommended that the group be registered so as to be recognized officially to enjoy government services availed only to registered groups. Financially, it is recommended that they start saving and credit activities i.e. to form a saving and credit scheme this will create saving habit among members therefore the project will have reserve funds for future development plans at the same time get rid of dependency.
