Abstract

The general objective of the study was to assess the factors influencing performance of transport sector in Tanzania police force in Mtwara. The theory of resource-based view was used in the study; the sample size was 92 respondents. Data collection was done using structured questionnaires, multiple regression technique was applied in analyzing data. The study revealed that resource allocation, organizational capabilities, and policy implementation had positive influence on the performance of transport sector in Mtwara, Tanzania and personnel skills had no effect of the transport performance. The research meanwhile examined if demographic characteristics like education level and job position had the influence on the transport sector performance. It was observed that even demographic details of respondents were considerably affected performance of transport sector. It was concluded that resource allocation, organization capabilities, and policy implementation have positive effects on the performance of transport sector in Tanzania police force in Mtwara region, however, personnel skills revealed not to have influence. The study further, provided recommendations based on the findings, among of which was how Tanzania police force should react on the inadequate resource allocation, application of innovative and modern technologies related to transport sector, ability to convert theory into practical as to fulfill the requirement of policy implementation.
