The Role of Pension Fund Unification on Enhancing Social Protection: A Case of Public Service Social Security Fund.

Abstract
This study sought to examine the role of the role of pension fund unification on enhancing social protection in Tanzania; a case of public service social security fund. The study was guided by four objectives; to determine the role of administrative efficiency, equity in benefits, financial sustainability and transparency and accountability on enhancing social protection. Positivist philosophy was employed in this study. Quantitative research approach was utilized. Explanatory research design was applied as well. A sample of 246 were drawn from a population of 679 which comprised retiree and staff working at PSSSF. A stratified random sampling technique was used in this study. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data in this study. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis were used as tools of data collection. The study findings indicated that all independent variables administrative efficiency, equity in benefits, financial sustainability and transparency and accountability are positive and significantly related to enhancing of social protection. Based on these findings this recommends it is crucial to prioritize and invest in administrative efficiency within social protection systems. Secondly, it is essential to implement policies that ensure fair and inclusive distribution of resources, third, it is crucial to establish and maintain stable funding mechanisms for social protection programs. Lastly, it is essential to implement robust mechanisms that ensure openness and responsibility in the management of social protection systems.
