Abstract

This study sought to examine the role of tourism sector on promoting community development in Arusha in Tanzania. The study was guided by three specific objectives; To determine the effect of economic growth due to tourism on community development at Arusha , To assess the effect of employment creation due to tourism on community development at Arusha , To examine the effect of Infrastructure development due to tourism on community development at Arusha . Positivist philosophy was employed in this study. For research approach a quantitative was used. Explanatory research design was used. A sample of 384 respondents were drawn from using random sampling from 990 population. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics, correlation and multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze data. The study found that all tourism independent variables; economic growth, employment creation and infrastructure development were positive and statistical significantly related to the dependent variable community development. Based on the findings this study recommends that there should be foster active participation and involvement of local communities in tourism-related decision-making processes. Secondly Invest in vocational training and skill development programs tailored to the needs of the tourism industry. Equip local residents with the skills required for various tourism-related roles, including hospitality, guiding, and cultural interpretation and lastly investment in infrastructure improvements, such as roads, transportation networks, and sanitation facilities, to enhance the accessibility and safety of tourist destinations while improving the quality of life for local residents.
