The role of School Committees in Enhancing Quality of Primary Education in Tanzania: A Case of Meatu District, Simiyu.

Abstract
The study analysed roles played by School Committees (SCs) in enhancing quality of education in primary schools in Tanzania. Specifically, the study assessed the extent to which school committees are performing their expected school functions, the relationship between their roles and quality education enhancement and challenges they encounter. The study was conducted in Meatu district Simiyu region and involved 62 participants. The study mainly employed qualitative research method using descriptive design and used interview, focus group discussion, observation and documentary review methods for data collection. The findings showed that SCs roles were closely related to quality education enhancement including attending emergency meetings and making decisions on different school matters, approving school funds expenditure, construction and rehabilitation of essential school buildings. It was therefore justified in findings that SCs did not manage expected key roles towards quality education enhancement satisfactorily because of less involvement, increased emergency meetings rather than formal ones, lack of openness and the records of SCs activities are not well organized and recorded, lack of adequate management skills to maximize their execution,
