Abstract

This project report is the result of Community Needs Assessment (CNA) conducted byresearcher with VIJANA USAFI Group at Kamunyonge Wardin Musoma Municipality, Mara region. Participatory methodologies were deployed to involve stakeholders in determining community needs and developingsolutions to improve livelihood. The main goal of CNAwas to collect important information which help to identify needs, assets andopportunities, and to identify project for improving livelihood of targeted community.TheCNA had four specific objectives: to identify demographic characteristics of VIJANA USAFI group in Kamunyonge ward;to identify main opportunities and challenges facing VIJANA USAFI Group;to assess majorcommunity needs of VIJANA USAFI group;and to develop interventions for the identified community needs.TheCNA exercise used various research methods and tools, including Focused Group Discussions, Interviews,and Discussion Guide. The main outcome of CNA in terms of community needs was lack of reliable income to youth.To address that need, a CED project of Solid Waste Collection was decided with thefollowing objectives:to build capacity of VIJANA USAFI group through training by July, 2022;to mobilize tools and equipment for Solid Waste Collection by August, 2022; to collect solid wastes from residential and commercial areas, and public and private institutions by September, 2022; and to collect and manage fees for Solid Waste Collection by September, 2022. The long term outcome of achieving these objectives is to improve youth income and community livelihoods. Key words: Income, Youth, Solid Wastes, Livelihood.
