Abstract
This dissertation is concerned with the assessment of the impact of social schemes projects conducted by NSSF to regional development in Tanzania. The study main objective was to assess the impact of social schemes projects in Dar es Salaam Region. Also, the study had three objectives which were; 1) to explore the motive behind construction of Nyerere Bridge; 2) to find out the contribution of Nyerere Bridge in Dar es Salaam regional development; 3) to assess the challenges facing the implementation and monitoring of Nyerere bridge operations. This study is qualitative in nature and it used purposive and convenient sampling procedure. The sample size of the study was 35 participants. The data collection methods were Individual interviews and documentary review. The data collected were analyzed through content analysis. The study findings revealed that the motive behind the construction of Nyerere Bridge was to facilitate easy transportation services to residents of Kigamboni and Kurasini in their daily activities. Further, was to necessitate the accessibility of social services such as hospitals and education services in other areas in the city of Dar es Salaam. The study revealed that the Nyerere bridge has contributed in create informal employment of bodaboda and Mama Lishe. Different oil companies have opened such as Lake Oil, Afro Oil and etc. finally the government have collected revenue of 20 billion from 2016 to 2018. The study recommended that the government should meet with commuter bus owners to discuss and agree on increasing transportation services that will be adequately available all the time from Kigamboni to Temeke route or vice-versa.
