Impact of Iringa Hope Joint SACCOS Enterprise Ltd in Households’ Welfare in Iringa Region.

Abstract
This study examined “the impact of Iringa Hope Joint SACCOS (IHJS) programme on households’ welfare in Iringa region. It focused on three major objectives which were to: evaluate the of small loans made by Iringa Hope Joint SACCOS towards improving household welfare of its members in Iringa region, evaluate regular savings deposits by members to Iringa Hope Joint SACCOS contribution for their household welfare and assess the extent of advisory and managerial services provided by Iringa Hope Joint SACCOS towards impact on sustainability of SACCOS. The descriptive survey design was adopted alongside quantitative approach. The study was conducted in Kilolo and Iringa districts, Iringa region and constituted 170 respondents. These districts constitute villages of beneficiaries majority of them are poor families. Data were gathered through questionnaires. The results revealed that, Iringa Hope Joint SACCOS households’ welfare in Iringa region is improving due to increased household income, decision making and capacity building that influences regular savings deposit by members. Furthermore, the study also revealed that employment has been increasing due to SACCOS’s financial access and it becomes sustainable as income increases. The researcher recommends IHJS should consider offering financial services at low interest rates to enable poorer smallholder farmers and small business access finances. It should continue supporting SACCO’s members with training to enable them improve governance and performance of financial services.
