Abstract

The study on contribution of community development initiatives TASAF project in poverty reduction was conducted at Wete District (in Weni irrigation rice field, Kinyikani and Junguni community). Specifically, the study aimed in assessing community awareness on the process of implementation of the TASAF projects, second to determine the role of TASAF on initiation and implementation of community development projects, thirdly to examine the contribution of TASAF projects on improving standard of living of the community and finally, assessing people’s attitudes towards TASAF CDI projects and challenges faced. A cross-sectional research design was employed, and Semi structured and structured interview schedules were used to collect primary data. The sample sizes of 55 respondents were drawn through stratified random sampling and simple random sampling. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 26. Generally, the findings reveal that the majority (81.7%) of respondents were aware of the procedures used in the initiation and implementations of the TASAF projects. Further, the study revealed that, (76.4.0%), of the respondents accept that CDI through TASAF has the role of providing support for implementation of the project, the study also revealed that the majority, (31.1%) of the respondents accept that CDI through TASAF has improved their living standard. And (16.4%) of respondents highlighted that, the major challenge faced during the implementation of the project was the lack of cooperation between project contractors and supervisors of the project especially from the local leaders. Based on the findings of the study it is concluded that TASAF has increased initiation and implementations of community development projects and has contributed toward poverty reduction. It is recommended that to achieve greater poverty reduction, more area based development programme/projects are needed in the pro-poor growth areas.
