Abstract
The study aimed at assessing the effects of motivation on employee performance at AMI Clearing and Forwarding Agent Company Ltd in Tanzania. The following were the specific objectives of the study: To examine the effects of intrinsic motivation on employee performance at AMI Clearing and Forwarding Agent Company Ltd in Tanzania, to examine the effects of extrinsic motivation on employee performance at AMI Clearing and Forwarding Agent Company Ltd in Tanzania, to examine the relationship between motivation and performance at AMI Clearing and Forwarding Agent Company Ltd in Tanzania. A descriptive research design with a cross-sectional survey strategy was employed. A sample of 115 employees was selected by simple random sampling and purposive sampling. Questionnaires were used to collect primary data. Descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis techniques were used to analyse data. Results show that motivation has significant positive influence on employee performance. Intrinsic and extrinsic motivations have significant positive influence on employee performance. The findings show that there is high employee motivation in AMI Clearing and Forwarding Agent Company Ltd in Tanzania. It was recommended that the transportation and logistics companies should undertake regular review of motivational strategies particularly considering opportunities of enhancing motivation among employees in order to effectively increase morale for employees.
