Effect of Workplace Stress on Employees’ Performance: A Case of Mbinga Town Council Hospital at Mbinga.

Abstract
This study examined the effect of workplace stress on employees’ performance at Mbinga Town Council Hospital in Ruvuma. The specific objectives of the study included: to understand causes of stress among health care workers at Mbinga Town Council Hospital, to identify stress related factors affecting the performance of healthcare workers at Mbinga Town Council as well as to identify strategies to manage stress of healthcare workers at Mbinga Town Council Hospital. The Role and Job Demands Control theory was chosen to guide this study whereas the Job Demands Control theory was used as the leading theory due to the correlation with stress and job performance. Purposeful sampling techniques were used in order to capture information from 16 respondents. Descriptive for qualitative research design was adopted in conducting this study interchangeably with exploratory design. The researcher adopted a qualitative approach in which Focus Group Discussions and interviews methods were used to obtain data. In this study 4 medical Doctors, 4 Assistant Medical Officers, 4 Assistant Nursing Officers and 4 Nurses were involved to represent the whole population. The findings revealed that stress at work place performance has great negative effect to the workers performance. From this study, it was recommended that workers should be assured peace at their working place so as to work effectively in order to yield good results in improving work performance.
