Abstract

The general objective was to examine the effectiveness of public sector project management practices on the successful implementation of government projects with reference to TBA and TRC construction projects.Specifically, the study analyzed the effectiveness of project planning practices; project execution practices; project controlling practices; and monitoring and evaluation practices on successful implementation of TBA and TRC projects. This study adopted a descriptive research design. A sample size of 50 respondents was drawn purposively through questionnaire administration. Data were descriptively analyzed through Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 20). However, multiple regression analysis was used to predict the relationship that exists between variables. The results indicated that project planning practices at TBA and TRC were effective as there were the availability of smart project objectives (60%) that enhanced clear deliverables and deadlines (70%), Also, the project execution practices at TBA and TRC were effective due to the ability to manage people (95%), communication (80%) and contract management (100%). Likewise, project controlling practices at TBA and TRC were effective due to the enhancement of staffing plan (70%) and adhering to plan during execution (80%). Similarly, project M&E practices at TBA and TRC were effective due to managing outputs and outcomes (70%), and carrying impact monitoring (90%). Moreover, multiple regression showed that all variables were significant predictors (p<1.000) of the model. It was concluded and recommended to have smart project objectives, enhance communication while setting project control systems and managing contracts.
