Abstract

The study examined the influence of performance management tools to workers’ performance in Bariadi District Council. The study was conducted with the view to examine level of understanding of OPRAS by employers and employees, to analyze the usefulness and challenges of OPRAS in decision making regarding promotions, motivation and demotions, to evaluate the relationship between reward and recognition and workers’ performance as well as to analyze the influence of financial resources and participation in clear goal setting to workers’ performance in Bariadi District Council. In realizing this aim, the study employed qualitative and quantitative approach as a major approach to the study and analyze data in order to address the main objective of the study. The data was analyzed by Ms.-word and presented by the use of tables, charts and graphs. The study employed both probability and non-probability sampling procedures in order to capture information from a variety of respondents. The findings of the study reveal that most employees are not aware of OPRAS practices due to its many challenges, Reward and Recognition programmes is seen the better performance management tool. Therefore, the study come out with the recommendation that adequate OPRAS training and seminars should be conducted, investing sufficient financial management support, OPRAS forms to be reviewed and revised to fit the demands of employees, provision of rewards and workers’ recognition to be given priority.
