Investigation of Effectiveness of Training Programs on Employee’s Performance at United States Agency for International Development (USAID/Tanzania).
Masters thesis, The Open University of Tanzania.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the training programs on employee’s performance. The specific objectives were: firstly, to examine the effect of the types of training on employee’s performance. Secondly, to examine the effect of individual’s motivation for training on employee’s performance, and lastly, to examine the effect of the style of conducting training programs on employee’s performance. The study was conducted at the USAID/Tanzania (Mission); the target population was all 146 employees, and 101 employees responded which is 69% of the population. The data was collected through a questionnaire. Descriptive, correlation and regression data analysis methods were employed to analyze the data collected using SPSS. The study revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between motive for training and employees’ performance as well as between the conduct of training and employee’s performance. However, the study revealed a negative and insignificant relationship between types of training and employee’s performance. The study recommends that the USAID/Tanzania management and Training Committee use training programs as a reward tool to encourage employees to attend training for employee benefits and the organization at large. They should create training and development opportunities for new staff in less than three (3) years, and provide opportunity for all employees to attend training of their choice.
