Abstract

Organizations must step outside of their outdated leadership styles and comfort zones to look at new ways of working. They have to create a work environment where people enjoy what they do, feel like they have a purpose, dominion and ownership in what they do, and can reach their potential. The study aimed to assess the effects of working environment on employees’ performance at Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in order to examine the relationship between physical work environment and employee’s performance, the relationship between Social work environment and employee’s performance but also the relationship between Organizational work environment and employee’s performance. Quantitative research design was used. Simple random sampling technique was respectively used to select the respondents for the study. Respondents for this study were four hundred (363) made up of one hundred and eighty-five (166) females and two hundred and fifteen (194) males. Structured questionnaires were used for data collection. Data analysis for this study was done using linear regression and Correlation whereby the study’s findings indicate a positive and significant relationship between dependent variable that is employee performance and independent variables which are physical, social and organizational work environments. However, results further indicated that implementation of work-life balance; improved rewards systems, annual leave issue, improved workplace health & safety but also improved supervisors support would improve employee’s performance Keywords: Organizational-work environment, Physical-work environment, Social-work environment and Employee performance.
