Management of Funds on SACCO’s Service Delivery in Tanzania: A Case of
Kinondoni Municipality.
Masters thesis, The Open University of Tanzania.
Abstract
The study explores the effectiveness of the management of funds in the Savings and
Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs). More specifically the study aimed at
determining how accounting procedures, qualifications of management personnel,
good governance influence the effectiveness of SACCOs service delivery.A sample
of 60 respondents has conveniently drawn for the study from selected SACCO’s in
Kinondoni Municipal. The study adopted quantitative analysis through mean, mode,
median and frequency with the leap of SPSS. The study found out that the
accounting procedures, the qualifications of management personnel and the sense of
good governance lead to effective SACCOs service delivery. The study found out
that SACCOs changedthe lives of poor people.Findings leveal that SACCOs
members have increased their purchasing power and therefore expanded their
business. However, the findings reveal some weakness these include absence of
experts in proving training, high administration cost and lack of access to receive
funding from banks. The study recommends employing qualified staff, seeking
grants or aids or long term low-interest loans to increase their loan capital. SACCOs
must be audited by an external auditor to ensure transparency and reliability of
information. Best practice by SACCOs leaders.
