Masters thesis, The Open University of Tanzania.
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to find the effects of non involvement of public primary school teachers in decision-making on work performance in Missenyi District, Kagera Region, Tanzania. It comprised of three specific objectives. The first was to examine school budget preparation and implementation on teachers’ work performance, the second was to relate school rules and regulations formulation on teachers’ work performance and the last was to assess the choice of teaching and learning materials on teachers’ work performance. This study employed a descriptive survey as its research design. Quantitative data was analyzed using basic descriptive statistics, tables and charts. The study findings revealed that teachers were partially involved in decision-making in the budget preparations and implementation and in the choice of teaching and learning materials while they were fully involved in deciding in the formulation of school rules and regulations. It was recommended that, among other things, that teachers and other stakeholders should fully be involved in decision-making in the school budget implementation and in the choice of teaching and learning materials. Students and parents should also be involved in deciding which school rules and regulations should apply at the school levels.
