Abstract
This study focused on assessing the determinants of agricultural production on environmental management in Tumbatu Island. The study also examined effects facing agricultural production on environmental management in Tumbatu Island. Finally, the study explored the measures to address effects facing agricultural production on environment in Tumbatu Island. This study adopted descriptive survey research design. A total of 104 respondents were selected for this study which involved farmers, shehas, extension offices and veterinary officers. Information used in this study was collected using focus group discussion, interview, observation, questionnaire and literature review. The data collected through questionnaire was analysed using SPSS and Microsoft Excel while the data collected through interview, observation and focus group discussion were analysed using content analyses. During analyses of data, editing, coding, classification and tabulation were performed. Results have indicates that there were environmental determinants, technological determinants and socio-economic determinants. The study determine the effect farming production on environment which were soil quality and water contamination while the effect of livestock keeping on environment were overgrazing and water contamination in the study area. Lastly on the measures to address effect of agricultural production in the study area, included application of the management of organic matter, provision of environmental education and improving manure use and management.
