Abstract
This study was conducted to assess the contribution of human resources training towards academic performance in public secondary school at Bunda district. The study was focused on the followings specific objectives , to examine types of human resource training provided to teachers, determining the effects of human resource training on the academic performance and examining the challenges facing teachers in receiving human resources training. A total of 80 teachers from 8 sampled public secondary schools were selected using simple random sampling and purposive sampling. Data for the study were collected through interviews, questionnaire and documentary review. The collected data were coded and analyzed by using IBM-Statistical Product for service solution (SPSS) Version 20 and presented by frequency, tables and percentage. The findings from the study revealed that both sampled public secondary school has a human resources training in place, but it is poorly planned, not systematic and not coordinated. However, all interviewed teachers were aware of the existence of human resources training. The low budget allocation was found to hamper the implementation of the human resources training program. However, the human resources training itself had a positive correlation with the academic performance. Therefore, it is recommended that, Government and other stakeholders should have a well planned, systematic and coordinated training and development program through the establishment of specific training sections. There should also be an adequate budget allocation to finance the implementation the human resources training in public secondary school.
